In conjunction with the 60th International Art Exhibition – Venice Biennale, Austrian artist Erwin Wurm presents his works in the Sansovino Hall of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Piazza San Marco, Venice, accessible via the Museo Correr.

For Wurm, this is a return to the Lagoon: two years ago, he was the protagonist of the “Avatars” exhibition in the same prestigious Venetian venue; moreover, in 2011 and 2017, he participated in the 54th and 57th editions of the Venice Art Biennale, respectively. Now, it is time for a new adventure for the artist from Bruck an der Mur, who returns to the prestigious Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana with a solo exhibition titled “DEEP.” For the occasion, Wurm presents a selection of sculptural works placed in emotional dialogue with the paintings of Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, and other Venetian Renaissance masters that adorn the hall.

For two months, 13 of Erwin Wurm’s sculptures will be on display at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice, seven of which—larger in size—are placed in the suggestive monumental hall, while the remaining six—made of glass and smaller in size—are displayed in the vestibule leading to the grand hall.

The exhibition is organized by the Association for Art in Public and supported by Berengo Studio; moreover, it is part of the “At Home Abroad” exhibition project, which consists of a series of solo shows by important contemporary artists in the Sansovino Hall of the Venetian library. These include Bernar Venet and Jiri Georg Dokoupil, who, in line with the theme of the 60th Art Biennale, “Foreigners Everywhere,” have been artistically exploring themes of foreignness and estrangement since last June.

The artistic project was initiated and realized by the exhibition’s organizer, Dirk Geuer, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.

The press conference and the vernissage were coordinated by Once Extraordinary Events, as were the installations and institutional relations with the Biblioteca Marciana.
